House Tours: Self Build Dream Home

Leonie and her family moved into their self-build dream home after living in a mobile home for over six years. The long wait was worth it, though, and allowed plenty of time to find the right products, decide upon colour schemes and choose interior accessories - all of the things that give individual character to a home. Join us as we take a peek inside and see the stunning panoramic views from their fabulous kitchen ❤️

Timber & Oak Frame Structure

The house has a traditional oak frame structure and looks out onto idyllic countryside views. With previous experience of building projects, Leonie was able to take on the daunting task of project managing the build from start to finish. The family moved into a mobile home on site, which really helped to gain an understanding of the best aspects and make the most of what the site had to offer.

Leonie took her time choosing the right bricks for her home and finally chose reclaimed style bricks to give an old farmhouse feel. "It's the first thing you see when you look at a house and something you can never change."

The combination of the traditional oak frame, textured slate roof tiles and old style bricks gives the property an established character. The house sits in its surroundings as if it had always been there.

The Heart Of The House

Leonie wanted the eat-in kitchen to be the heart of the house and it certainly is a stunning space. The light pours in from the expanse of windows and makes the room inviting and warm. The oak beams offer a real farmhouse kitchen look.

For the cabinets and worktops, Leonie went for timeless classic style. The white walls and neutral colours work so well with the dark grey/blue of the large feature central island. Get the classic look with Bronze Cup Pulls and matching Bronze Cabinet Knobs.

Door Knobs & Details

When it comes to home decor, details make all the difference. It's the small things that often bring everything together. Leonie has been meticulous in her choice of detail - from the cabinet hardware and dining chairs in the kitchen, to the glorious floor to ceiling fitted cupboard in the boot room. And Reeded Door Knobs are the perfect finishing touch, offering timeless style.

Even if you are on a tight budget, there are still ways to get the look you want. Leonie sourced this fantastic boot room cupboard from Ikea and added the Bronze Cabinet Knobs that were also used in the kitchen and utility room.

The dining table looks like a designer piece but it was made from left over scaffold boards, stained with polyx oil in light grey, and metal legs - a steal at just £80 for the whole mini-project!

Classic Colour Palette

It can be a daunting task choosing the right colour scheme for one room, let alone a whole house, but Leonie has given her home the perfect neutral palette base. White walls are the ideal blank canvas and give a light and fresh feel to a space. Understated soft greys are versatile and offer a great backdrop for colour to be added later as accessories.
